I Carved this Bison back in about 1978. I gave it to a friend who moved to Alaska after he got out of the army and he has kept it all these years in perfect condition! It is Carved from a 16 point non typical whitetail deer rack, the same horn the pipe is cut from that you see in the bottom pictures. It was Carved from the main shaft just below where I cut the bowl. I smoked this tobacco pipe at black powder shoots in Friendship Indiana which changed the color of the pipe a bit, but a different friend had bought it and had it displayed for years, then packed it away in the attic. I was lucky enough to buy it back. But the Bison is exactly the same color as when i waxed it.
My initials are cut in the back the way I did it way back when, and this is the first time these two pieces have been together for 30 years!
I may make a mold and cast some of these in antiqued silver. If so, they will be numbered and for sale on here later.
If you look closely, you can see the cornea in his eye! I had forgotten how real he looks!
